Kotor Blue Cave Tour Prices: What You Pay for a Boat Trip to the Cave

Nearly every three-hour speedboat run from Kotor sells the same three stops for roughly the same money. The prices worth a second look are the ones at the edges: the cheap full-day cruises that charge again to get you inside the cave, and the boats sold as private that still bill you per head.

What a Blue Cave tour from Kotor costs

The Blue Cave sits on the seaward side of the Luštica Peninsula with no road to it, so a boat is not one of several ways to get there. It is the only one. That makes this a narrow market, and a flatter one than you would expect: once you have a shortlist of three-hour speedboats leaving Kotor, most of them charge within a few dollars of each other for the same run.

Which means the useful question is not which tour is cheapest, but which prices mean what they say. Two of the lowest numbers on GetYourGuide belong to large cruise boats that cannot enter the cave and charge again for the small boat that can. Two of the highest belong to boats advertised as private that still bill every passenger separately.

The main differences

  • A good all-round choice: Kotor: Blue Cave, Submarine Base, and Lady of the Rocks Tour, from $46. Rated 4.8/5 from more than 5,000 reviews, the longest record of any tour here, and it covers the cave swim, the Cold War submarine base, Our Lady of the Rocks and Mamula in three hours.
  • Most three-hour tours from Kotor sit between $38 and $46. They run the same route to the same stops, so inside that range you are picking an operator rather than an itinerary, and the number of reviews is the only thing left to separate them.
  • The two cheapest listings charge again to get you into the cave. The full-day Boka Bay cruise is from $28, then about €10 ($11) for the small boat that goes inside: $28 + $11 = $39, which is more than the cheapest three-hour tour with the swim already in the fare.
  • Landing on Our Lady of the Rocks costs about €5 ($6) in cash at the island. Many operators exclude it, a couple fold it into the fare, and nobody there takes a card.
  • Paying more does not buy you a different cave. Since May 2026 no tour boat goes inside, so every trip anchors outside and you swim in from there — the same swim from a $38 seat as from a $273 one.
  • The word private tells you nothing about how a boat is priced. Some private listings still charge per person, so four people pay four fares. A real charter is one price for the boat, from $341 for up to six.

Several other operators sell this exact three-hour circuit for the same $46, and one or two undercut it by a few dollars. What separates this one is the length of its record: more than 5,000 reviews at 4.8/5, against a few dozen for most of the boats beside it in the table. On a route where the boats and the stops are near enough identical, that record is the only thing left to choose on.

It also lands at the bottom of the cluster rather than the top. The Submarine & Speed Boat Tours trip is the better-known listing and has a comparable following, but it costs $51 and rates 4.7/5 — more money for a slightly shorter record.

  • Blue Cave swim, the Cold War submarine base, Our Lady of the Rocks and a pass by Mamula
  • Snorkelling masks, drinking water and an audio guide are in the fare
  • Landing on Our Lady of the Rocks is about €5 ($6), cash only at the island

If you want to spend less

The cheapest three-hour run with a real record

The same shape of trip as our pick — cave swim, Boka Bay, the submarine tunnels and Perast — for several dollars less, with a review base in four figures rather than the few dozen trips behind most listings at this price.

From $38 · 4.8/5 from 1,020 reviews · 3 hours

The trade is the shorter track record: a strong score, on about a fifth as many trips as our pick. The three-hour war tunnels tour is a dollar more with more than twice the reviews at 4.7/5, so take that one if the longer record matters to you more than the rating.

If three hours feels rushed

Four hours, with the island fee already paid

A fourth hour buys time ashore in Perast and a longer swim stop, and this operator folds the entrance tickets and drinks into the fare rather than collecting cash at the island. It scores 4.9 from 303 trips, a steadier sample than the scattered 5.0s further down the table.

From $51 · 4.9/5 from 303 reviews · 4 hours

It suits you if you would rather not be back in Kotor by lunchtime. If the cave is the only thing you came for, our pick covers that same stop for $5 less.

If you want the whole day out

A full day on a big boat

A different kind of trip rather than a longer version of the same one: eight hours on a catamaran with a lunch stop at Porto Montenegro, shade, and room to move around. The church and museum entry at Our Lady of the Rocks is included, which is unusual here.

From $106 · 4.7/5 from 687 reviews · 8 hours

Unlike the cheap full-day cruises further down, this one takes you into the cave without a second charge.

The whole boat, at one price

Other Experiences in Kotor and Boka Bay

If the cave is one item on a longer list — Perast, Mamula, the Old Town walls, a day out to Lovćen — these are the other things running from Kotor while you are here.

What You Get As You Spend More

Mostly a longer day, or a smaller boat with fewer people on it. The cave stop itself barely moves.

The standard three-hour run

From about $38 to $46. This is where nearly every Kotor operator sits, and it is the trip most people picture: out past Perast, a stop at Our Lady of the Rocks, the old submarine tunnels cut into the shore, a pass by Mamula and twenty to thirty minutes swimming at the cave. The $38 Boka Bay speedboat tour and our pick sit at either end of it, and the route in between is much the same either way.

The same route again, usually

From about $46 to $68. A few tours in this range genuinely add something — the four-hour Blue Cave and Perast tour gives you a fourth hour and pays the island fee for you. Most do not. Several charge into the fifties and sixties for the identical three stops with a fraction of the reviews, and that is the part of the ladder to be most careful with.

A different sort of day

Above about $106 you stop buying a boat ride to the cave and start buying either a whole day or a whole boat. The full-day catamaran cruise runs eight hours with a lunch stop and the island entry included; the private charters begin at $341 for up to six people. Neither gets you a better cave, and both change the rest of the day considerably.

Where these boats leave from

Almost all of them from Kotor itself, mostly from the waterfront at Park Slobode, a few minutes' walk from the Old Town gate and the cruise berth — you meet the boat in town and you are back in town afterwards. A handful of cheaper trips leave from Tivat or Perast instead, which is worth knowing before you book: the fare saved is easily spent again on the drive round the bay, and the Perast boats are no cheaper than Kotor's once you are there.

Prices checked September 2026 and shown in US dollars as GetYourGuide displays them. Operators price dynamically, so these figures are a guide; check the booking page for the current price. Euro amounts are converted at €1 = $1.1403 (European Central Bank reference rate via api.frankfurter.dev, 2026-09-25) and rounded. Every tour here is linked, including the ones we would not book, and every rating is shown with the number of reviews behind it — a high score on a handful of trips is a warning rather than a verdict, not a reason to hide the listing.

What the Cheapest Listings Leave Out

The two lowest prices in this market are not the two cheapest ways to see the Blue Cave. Both belong to large full-day cruise boats, and a large boat cannot get near the cave mouth, so the trip that takes you inside is sold separately once you are out there.

Tivat/Kotor: Boka Bay Full-Day Guided Cruise with Swim Stop is the clearest case. It is from $28 for eight hours around the bay, and its own listing excludes Blue Cave entry at about €10 ($11). That makes $28 + $11 = $39 to actually get in the water, before the €5 ($6) for Our Lady of the Rocks — and $39 is more than the cheapest three-hour speedboat, which includes the swim and has you back in Kotor by lunchtime. The Tivat full-day cruise works the same way: from $22, plus about €10 ($11) for the boat into the cave, and it is rated 3.9/5 from 138 reviews, among the lowest scores on this page.

None of that makes them bad days out. A full-day cruise with a swim stop and a lunch break is a pleasant way to spend eight hours on the water, and the guiding on the Boka Bay boat is well reviewed. It is just not the cheap Blue Cave trip the headline price suggests.

The one extra almost everybody pays. Stepping onto Our Lady of the Rocks costs about €5 ($6) per person, collected in cash on the island; the church and museum can be a euro or two more. Plenty of operators exclude it, one or two have folded it into the fare, and no one takes a card. Bring a note or two per person and you will not be caught out.

Identical whatever you pay

What Your Money Does Not Change

The same on every tour here

  • The cave itself. Since May 2026 no tour boat goes inside, so every operator anchors outside the mouth and you swim in with a life jacket. A $38 seat and a $273 one put you in exactly the same water.
  • Free cancellation. Every tour on this page can be cancelled up to 24 hours before for a full refund.
  • Reserve now, pay later. Also on every tour here, which makes holding a date while you watch the forecast essentially free.
  • The scenery on the way. Perast, the two islands and the Mamula headland are the same run whichever boat you are on.

Not usually in the fare

  • Landing on Our Lady of the Rocks, about €5 ($6) in cash at the island
  • The church and museum there, a euro or two on top
  • Food and drinks, beyond the water most operators hand out
  • Tips for the skipper, which are optional and usually mentioned in the listing

Is a Private Boat Priced Per Person or Per Boat?

Check before you book, because both exist on this route and the difference runs into hundreds of dollars.

The Private Luxury Boat listing is from $193 per person, and the Private Speedboat listing from $273 per person. Splitting those between friends does not help; it multiplies. Four people on the second one would pay $1,092, which is the most expensive way to see this cave.

A genuine charter quotes one figure for the boat. The six-seat charter is from $341 for up to six, rated 4.7/5 from 26 reviews — the only private boat from Kotor with a review base worth leaning on. The rest are listed below with theirs, because on several of them a perfect score rests on two or three trips.

Per-head figures are the published boat price divided by the party size, rounded down. They assume you fill the boat.

So when does a whole boat make sense?

Later than you might think, if you are counting dollars. Four people on our pick pay $184; the same four on the six-seat charter pay $341, about $157 more. Fill all six seats and the charter works out near $56 a head against $46, so the gap shrinks to roughly $65 for the group — but it never quite closes. The eight-seat charter is the one arrangement here that does undercut a group seat, at $45 a head with all eight aboard, and it carries a single review, which is not enough to book a day on.

What the money buys is the timetable. You leave when you want, you stay at the cave until your group is finished rather than when the next boat arrives, and nobody else is aboard. For a family with small children, or anyone who wants a long swim, that is worth more than the arithmetic suggests. For two people it is hard to justify.

Cheaper Ways Round It

Boats that leave from elsewhere in the bay

Tivat and Perast have their own cave trips, and one or two undercut Kotor's on paper. Factor in getting there and back before you book one — Tivat is a half-hour drive round the water from Kotor, and the bus does not run late.

Trips that skip the cave altogether

If what you really want is Perast and the island church, you can have that for less, because the cave is the expensive part of the run. These do not go near it, and we would not want anyone booking one by mistake.

A couple of listings bolt the cave onto something else — a tuk-tuk circuit, a quad ride over the Luštica headland. They are in the table where the boat is the main event; the quad version is not, because you are really booking a land trip with a boat attached and it is priced for a party of two.

The cheapest option in the bay is not on GetYourGuide at all: the little water taxis that shuttle from Perast harbour out to Our Lady of the Rocks charge a few euros for the crossing. Lovely, and the cheapest thing afloat in the bay — but they go to the island and nowhere else.

Should You Pay More?

For most people, no. The cave stop is the same twenty-odd minutes in the same water whatever you spend, and once you are inside the $38 to $46 band you are choosing between operators running the same route, so the sensible move is to take the one with the longest record and stop thinking about it.

Paying more earns its keep in two situations. If you want the day rather than the errand — lunch, shade, somewhere to sit — a full-day boat is a different experience and priced like one. And if there are four or more of you, or you want to swim without watching the clock, a charter buys the timetable, which is the one thing the cheap tours cannot sell you.

Blue Cave Tour Price FAQ

How much does a Blue Cave tour from Kotor cost?
Most three-hour group speedboat tours from Kotor run between $38 and $46 per person, and that is the going rate for the standard circuit: the Blue Cave swim, Our Lady of the Rocks and usually the old submarine tunnels. A few shorter trips start lower, and some operators charge into the sixties for the same route. Full-day cruises and private boats are a different market, from about $106 a head for a whole day on the water, and $341 for a small boat to yourselves. Prices were checked in September 2026 and move with the season.
Is there an entrance fee for the Blue Cave itself?
There is no ticket office at the cave, so on most tours the boat fare is all you pay. The exception is the big full-day cruise boats, which cannot get in: their listings exclude a separate charge of about €10 ($11) for the small boat that takes you inside. Landing on Our Lady of the Rocks is separate again, usually €5 ($6) in cash at the island, and several operators exclude it.
Why are some Blue Cave tours so much cheaper than others?
Usually because they are selling something slightly different. The cheapest listings are full-day cruises on large boats that pass the cave rather than enter it, so the price that gets you inside is higher than the headline. Among the three-hour speedboats the spread is much narrower, and the dearer ones are rarely doing more: several charge into the fifties and sixties for the same three stops as a $38 tour, with far fewer reviews behind them.
Is a private Blue Cave boat worth it?
It depends on how the listing is priced, and that is not obvious from the name. Some tours called private charge per person, so a family of four pays four fares. A real charter is one price for the boat: the six-seat charter is from $341 for up to six people, rated 4.7/5 from 26 reviews. Four people would pay $184 on our pick, so the boat to yourselves costs about $157 more; with six aboard the gap narrows to about $65. You are buying the timing and the space rather than a better cave.
Can you reach the Blue Cave without booking a tour?
Not really. The cave is on the open-sea side of the Luštica Peninsula with no road to it, so a boat is the only way in. The cheap water taxi from Perast across to Our Lady of the Rocks is a genuinely good way to see the island on your own, but it does not go anywhere near the cave.
